Bolton Wanderers Community Trust (BWCT) and Farnworth Table Tennis Club are working in partnership to increase table tennis participation for 7 – 11 year olds as part of the Premier League 4 Sport project.
BWCT and Farnworth Table Tennis Club, run by ex Olympian Andrea Holt, are working with a cluster of primary schools around the club with the aim of increasing the members of the junior section at the local table tennis club.
We are currently working with the following schools:
· Plodder Lane Primary School
· St Bedes Primary School
· Highfeild Primary School
The first session started off with great success at Highfeild Primary School, where 15 children had their first experience of table tennis. With a 6 week block of Butterfly Skills sessions BWCT and Farnworth Table Tennis Club will develop the children through basic table tennis fundamentals and all children will be signposted to their local club to develop further.
Butterfly Skills programme
The Butterfly Skills table tennis programme provides an exciting and progressive framework to deliver table tennis in schools, clubs and sport centres nationwide.
Developed in partnership between the English Table Tennis Association, English Schools’ Table Tennis Association and world famous equipment manufacturer Butterfly, the resources have been finely tuned to specifically meet the needs of the ever-increasing demand for table tennis within the schools and the community.
The programme includes a 180 page manual full of clear diagrams, illustrations and easy to follow instructions on how to play, plus a set of tailored rewards for each level reinforcing every participant’s sense of personal achievement. This combination provides a clear pathway for a player’s progression from beginner to advanced level. It also includes lesson plans, competition templates, players’ progress charts and teachers’ schemes of work, providing a one-stop table tennis delivery solution for all teachers and coaches.
