Bolton Wanderers Community Trust got off to a flying start with the new Table Tennis Primary School programme which is supported by Sport England Small Grants funding. The programme is designed to encourage table tennis participation among 7 to 11 year olds, whilst also creating an exit route to local community club, Farnworth Table Tennis Club.

The past 6 weeks have seen 95 children attend table tennis sessions at their local schools. The sessions are being delivered at a number of schools within Farnworth which will encourage them to use Farnworth Table Tennis Club as an exit route.

The coaches delivering the sessions follow the well-established Butterfly Skills programme which provides an exciting and progressive framework to deliver table tennis in schools, clubs and sport centres nationwide.  Developed in partnership between the English Table Tennis Association, English Schools’ Table Tennis Association and world famous equipment manufacturer Butterfly, the resources have been finely tuned to specifically meet the needs of the ever-increasing demand for table tennis within the schools and the community.

Project Coordinator Nicol Meredith commented “ the sessions are fun and educative.  We find young people learning new skills and progressing their game play within table tennis. The project has also been a great success in getting young people to attend their local community club.  I feel we really are working hard to sustain the great work”.
