On Wednesday 20th April, Bolton Wanderers Community Trust hosted a North West regional table tennis tournament which 7 Premier League football clubs attended including Wigan Athletic, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, Liverpool, Everton and of course Bolton Wanderers.

Each club hosted inter-club table tennis competitions to select their best 4 boys and best 2 girls from the Premier League 4 Sport Initiative to attend the regional tournament.

All the teams had a great time at the tournament which was played as a league format, allowing all clubs to play each other. The Bolton Wanderers team experienced wins and also many challenges throughout, with the fun escalating as they went head to head with the Stoke City team. Due to the recent FA cup loss at Wembley tensions were high but the game ended in a very admirable draw.

The day was great fun both for participants and also Premier League 4 Sport coordinators who took to the tables to compete against each other whilst teams cheered along.

There was a great exhibition by Andrea Holt (ex Olympian) and Mick Moyer (Blackburn Rovers table tennis coach coordinator) who demonstrated many techniques to the surrounding crowd.

Teams were also competing against the robot machine whilst being coached on how to improve their table tennis skills.

There was plenty of support from all 7 Premier League teams during the competition as well as 4 young volunteers from the local schools within Bolton. The volunteers had previously done a table tennis networkers course and were a great help on the day.

After some hard fought games victory finally went to Blackburn Rovers who played some excellent table tennis throughout the league process. Runners up went to Stoke City, who also showed a lot of great game play. All teams received medals and rewards and a great tournament was had by all.  Blackburn Rovers - Winners
