North West Regional Judo Red Belt Rumble
On Saturday 11 February 2012, Bolton Wanderers Community Trust, in partnership with the British Judo Association and Bolton Ghosia Judo Club, hosted the first North West Regional Judo Competition ‘Red Belt Rumble’ 2012, at Bolton Arena.

Thanks to funding from the Premier League, Bolton Wanderers Community Trust hosted the ‘Red Belt Rumble’ to give young people an experience of an open competition. Competitors included Premier League 4 Sport participants and also any young, red belt qualified person that was between the ages of 8 to 19.
The event saw 37 young people compete against each other from a number of North West clubs; Bolton Ghosia Judo Club, Bredakwai Judo Club, Clayton Green Judo Club and Rainhill Rockets Judo Club.
The Premier League 4 Sport Project has been a great influence on British Judo and it has really aided the development of the sport as well as supporting the school to club pathway for judo. As a result there are many new judo participants all over the country due to the fantastic partnership between the Premier League and British Judo.
Premier League 4 Sport Project Coordinator Nicol Meredith said, “It is great to witness the impact that Premier League 4 Sport has had on judo and the number of young people now competing through local clubs due to the project.”
Kerry Finney – British Judo Technical Officer - North West quoted, “It was a brilliant day. For many children it was their first experience out of the club environments. All levels were catered for and a giant step in confidence building on the competition structure.”
Dave Duffy – British Judo Regional Development Officer - North West quoted; "The event was a joy for everyone involved, the children loved it, the parents loved it, the organisers and officials all agreed that there was a need for more events of a similar nature. Everyone was a winner!"
