After the success of London 2012 and Team GB putting in their best ever performance by finishing 3rd, we can now reflect on the legacy and the inspiration the game has had on young people and to continue this legacy, Bolton Wanderers Community Trust held a week of sports for the students at Bolton Muslim Girls School (BMGS).
The students of BMGS participated in a variety of Olympic sports including Hockey, Badminton, Handball, Table Tennis and Basketball. The girls experienced sports sessions delivered by top quality club coaches during which they were taught the fundamentals of each sport and also experienced a competitive tournament.
During the event club coaches held many discussions with young people on how they felt during the London 2012 games. Discussions were extremely inspirational and it was amazing to see how many of the girls aspired to be future athletes. The event engaged 480 girls aged 11 to 16 over 4 days in 5 different sports which was a true success with girls from sporty and non-sporty backgrounds all taking part.
Bolton Wanderers Community Trust work with BMGS on a regular basis to encourage more young girls to become involved within sport, with the long term goal of getting them into a local sports club for life.
