Positive Chances held their first family day up at High Rid Reservoir. The project invited families to participate in Canoeing, Kayaking and Raft building.
The day started off well with all the families turning up despite the weather being wet and cold. We set about by getting wetsuits and life jackets on. These were definitely needed on this wet and windy day.
Wetsuits on and raring to go we all worked together to get the canoes down to the water, Then we split ourselves into teams and climbed into the canoes braving the choppy waters.
Enjoyment levels where high the teams paddled the canoes to the far end of the reservoir. This was made easier as the wind was blowing on our backs so we just needed to steer the canoes in the right direction.
After reaching the other end a well deserved rest was needed before heading back this time the conditions were more testing with the wind and rain driving in our faces.
Due to the weather conditions we grouped the canoes together. by tieing them together this enable the groups to work as a team and beat the elements. This worked well and with lots of hard work and good team work we managed to get back.
The day was a real success and all who took part should be proud of their achievements. The weather made the day difficult but everyone took part and completed the challenge.
To end the session off some people decided that they would brave the water once more, but this time not in a boat but for a swim.
Well done to all that took part and a big thank you to the staff at High Rid Reservoir.
