On Friday 25th March 2011, BWCT’s Premier League 4 Sport project took a team of Bolton’s youngsters to compete in a table tennis tournament hosted by Blackburn Rovers Community Trust.
The Premier League 4 Sport programme operates 4 Table Tennis satellite clubs within Bolton and a preliminary competition was undertaken to identify the best players from these 4 clubs to represent Bolton Wanderer’s Community Trust. 10 players were finally selected from the following schools Harper Green, Bolton St Catherine’s Academy and Thornleigh to make the journey down to Blackburn Rover’s.
The competition was arranged to give the young people something to aspire to and to give the training an element of purpose. The tournament also gave the youngsters the chance to challenge themselves by playing new opponents and we have had a lot of positive feedback from the table tennis players who thoroughly enjoyed their first of many competitive experiences of sport.
Some exceptional table tennis was played on the day unfortunately resulting in a 3 -1 defeat for Bolton following some tough competition from the Blackburn side. However Bolton’s team spirit remained high and a fantastic night was had by all involved.
