Active Families, Bolton
Bolton Wanderers Community Trust have launched a new 3 year ‘Active Families, Bolton’ project funded by the Premier League / Professional Footballer’s Association Community Fund tackling family health through increasing education, sports provisions and activities in the local community.

Family Events
There will be an array of family events throughout the year looking to increase opportunities for parents and children to exercise together with the main event being the One Bolton 5km run and 2012m family fun run which took place in May of this year. The event proved so successful with over 500 participants taking part it will now become an annual event that will become bigger and better year on year. Family afterschool Zumba sessions organised in partnership with Get Active Bolton have proved popular and are motivating families to lead healthier lifestyles in line with Bolton Council’s vision for a ‘Healthier’ Bolton.
Primary Schools
We aim to reinforce this message within primary schools through a 5 week health education program, backed by NHS Bolton, encompassing healthy eating, the importance of exercise and the dangers of substance misuse, whilst undertaking a range of physical activities.

High School
We will also be working in local high schools within Bolton over the next 3 years delivering a term’s worth of health related learning linked with exercise, physical activity and lifestyle management, again supported by NHS Bolton. In addition we will be offering the opportunity to gain both Young Leader Awards and Junior Football Organisers Awards as part of the same project, thus increasing the self-esteem and employability of youngsters within the Bolton area.
