Active Families has a vision, the vision that Bolton becomes the healthiest town in all of Lancashire by tomorrow! How can this be achieved I hear you ask? Well, Active Families works continuously with the youth of today, and we asked the children in various Primary schools in the Farnworth area to record a diary of all of the healthy things they & their family get up to in a typical week.
Below are some of the standout entries we received, with the best ones winning the prize of becoming a Junior White for an upcoming Bolton Wanderers Premier League fixture!

Amazingly, all of my family do something healthy. My sister and I go swimming, my sister goes to the gym and jogs every morning, my brother plays football and boxes, and my Mum also goes to the gym. My big sister has lost a lot of weight by exercising. My top tip is if you are ever hungry before after exercising, eat a banana as it gives you long lasting energy. We also go to a gym where we do Zumba and its GREAT FUN! We did do dancing, but it unfortunately finished. In school we do P.E and we learn new moves and really cool things. On Thursday the 19th of January we were visited by Bolton Wanderers Community Trust, and it was great as we learnt lots of things about being healthy, I hope we do more things like that. My other tip is that if you eat slowly you will get full easier, helping you not to overeat.

I have been to a running club in the Bolton arena called Horwich RMI because running is my passion. Also, I made many friends! I always want to stay healthy so I eat a balanced diet. I’ve been on many holidays but there are two that stand out; Rhodes, in Greece, had an all-inclusive restaurant and a swimming pool when you step off your balcony so you can swim whenever you want. I have also been to Center Parks where you can hire bikes and go on really big water slides which was lots of fun! I have also learnt that you have to eat a balanced diet to stay healthy as well as exercising for an hour a day. Most people in my family are healthy because my Mum goes to the gym, and my Dad cycles and can also run really fast.
Name; Samantha

Samantha’s healthy entry;
My name is Samantha and I think sport is fascinating because it can make people fit and healthy. Also, it can make others have fun and be delighted. I took part in an activity called PGL which made me fit. There is one thing that has made me healthy and that one thing is eating my 5-a-day and keeping a balanced diet. This is important because if you eat junk food from KFC or MacDonald’s every day, it will make you obese. To keep fit I exercise everyday by running 30 minutes after school and stretching which keeps me in perfect shape. However, in my family, not many people do sports but they can keep a balanced diet. I have learnt that being healthy means not only eating healthily but also including some exercise in daily life. I have also learnt that if you do eat junk food every day and don’t exercise, it could lead to you getting all kinds of illnesses.

Every Saturday me and my brother do an extremely good form of exercise we go swimming at Farnworth swimming pool while my Mum goes shopping. We made up many tricks that we perform in the pool, most of them involve using all our muscles and forcing ourselves under water and spiral across the pool.
We keep mentally fit by reading books and doing word problems at the weekend. On Sunday we have a healthy meal with meat vegetables and gravy. I used to do karate with my brother, we did karate 3 times per week for 4 years and we got to brown belt which is 3 from black belt. I might go back to karate after Christmas but that depends on my Dad’s health. My family keep very active now and never plan to give it up, we want to stay a healthy family and we will.
